It's never been easier to find so many quilt patterns online.

When you find a quilt design you want to make, the pattern has all the instructions to make that quilt.

Downloadable quilt patterns are available as pdf files, which allows you to receive them quickly.
That saves you time waiting for them to be shipped and the shipping cost!

A great site to find over 100 different patterns is Victoriana Quilt Designs, which has been offering downloadable quilt patterns since 2001.

You'll find most of the patterns offered from Victoriana Quilt Designs on the Pattern Page, and the pages that link from there.

On the main Pattern Page, you will find the quilts that are available to Victoriana Members, for free.
Some of these, marked with an * are also available to purchase.

1. Click the Past Patterns button to see many more quilts, that are available to purchase.
These include samplers, baby quilts & scrap quilts.

2. Click the Quilt Pattern Categories button to look for the quilt patterns available - by theme.

3. The Complimentary Patterns button will take you to the page, which lists all the free patterns available.

 

After you choose a quilt pattern, and made your purchase, you will receive the pdf pattern file, attached to an email.

It is recommended that you print the pattern and the coloured web page.
Tip: If you don't have a printer, most local libraries offer the use of their printers.

Printed Beginner's Sampler Pattern

Now you have:

1. A coloured picture of the original quilt, which you can use as a guide.

2. The Fabric Key which gives you the list of fabrics required to make the pattern, including the amounts you will need.

3. The pattern itself includes a black and white drawing of the quilt pattern.
Tip: You could colour this picture in, with the colours you plan to make your quilt.


The pattern also has the instructions, to guide you through the making and finishing of the quilt, as pictured.
These include:
~The finished size of the quilt.
~List any special* tools or notions that are required.
~The size to cut each fabric.
~Full size templates (if required).
~Piecing instructions with diagrams, for making the quilt blocks.
~Layout of the quilt blocks, sashing and borders.
~Sewing the top together.
~Tips and ideas for finishing the quilt.

*Basic quilting tools & notions include rotary cutter, cutting mat, grid ruler(s), thread, scissors, sewing machine, seam ripper, iron & ironing board/mat.

Beginner's Quilt Techniques List

The patterns from Victoriana Quilt Designs also include a Technique List.
These are the quilt technique instruction pages, that the pattern will refer you to.

Theses pages also come as pdf files and are available (free) from the Techniques Page, in the Library of the site.

If the pattern has templates, to make some of the elements of the quilt, the full size templates will also be included in the pattern.
